Chicken Fried Steak Recipe

Classic Southern Chicken Fried Steak (USA)

Ingredients:

  • 4 cube steaks

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

  • ¾ teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

  • Pound the cube steaks to about ¼-inch thickness.

  • In a shallow bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and pepper.

  • In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, hot sauce, and garlic.

  • Dredge steaks in the flour mixture, then dip in the buttermilk mixture, and coat again in flour.

  • Heat oil in a deep skillet to 325°F (163°C).

  • Fry steaks for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.

  • Drain on paper towels and serve with creamy gravy
