French Onion Soup (France)

A rich, caramelized onion soup topped with melted cheese.

Ingredients:

  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced

  • 4 tbsp butter

  • 1 tbsp flour

  • 4 cups beef broth

  • ½ cup white wine

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 baguette, sliced

  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, grated

Instructions:

  • Melt butter in a pot and sauté onions until caramelized.

  • Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.

  • Add broth, wine, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes.

  • Ladle soup into bowls, top with baguette slices and cheese.

  • Broil until cheese is melted and golden.
